Vagus Cranial Nerve
Our nervous system is our control centre effected by our environment past and present. The Vagus nerve in particular regulates our digestion, heart rate, respiration, smooth muscle activity in blood and lymph, reflex actions such as coughing, sneezing etc. our inflammatory and immune function as well as being a key player in mood and anxiety disorders.
In our increasingly stressful lives attempting to juggle the many demands it is easy for this incredible nerve which begins at the mouth and travels through our organs to the anus (which also plays a large role in the blood brain barrier which protects from plaque build up caused by environmental toxins) to struggle to function optimally.
Inflammation is indicated to be the root of most chronic dis-ease such as diabetes, Alzheimer's, Arthritis and inflammatory comorbidity.
when the Vagal nerve is functioning well we are sociable, feel safe and respond well to life. when we we move into sympathetic activation we feel overwhelmed, reactive, develop mood swings and eventually inflammatory disease. If we do not make lifestyle changes we can move into chronic Dorsal Vagal Activation where you feel despair, loneliness, experiencing a feeling of emptiness with no motivation or zest for life.
