About me
with Samantha James
I’m a health and wellbeing practitioner and educator based in beautiful North Devon, where I live with my husband and our four children. My work is rooted in a deep passion for helping people understand themselves, build confidence and create meaningful, lasting change in their health and wellbeing.
After 14 years working directly with clients as a Sports and Clinical Rehabilitation Therapist, bodyworker and health coach, I recently closed my client-facing practice to focus on two areas I’m particularly passionate about: health coaching, and sharing my knowledge and experience through teaching, mentoring, diplomas and CPD.
I’m now working on partnering with Holistic Therapies Training to offer diplomas and CPD courses across Health & Wellbeing, Sports and Bodywork, bringing together my academic background with many years of hands-on experience.
My professional journey began in health and social care, supporting individuals through mental health services, women’s programmes and youth outreach, before teaching life skills and wellbeing at The Amber Foundation. I then spent 14 years working hands-on in sports and clinical rehabilitation, supporting people with musculoskeletal conditions, injury, pain and recovery through a combination of bodywork, rehabilitation and movement, as well as ad hock teaching and mentoring bodywork. CPD’s and Diplomas.
In 2020, I went to university to complete a BSc in Health & Wellbeing with First Class Honours, with a focus on chronic health, exercise prescription, nutrition and behaviour change. This led me into health coaching, an area I’m passionate about continuing to develop. Rather than leaving my hands-on experience behind, I want to bring these two worlds together — continuing to support people through health coaching, while sharing the knowledge, experience and practical insight I’ve gained over many years with others entering or developing within the profession.
At the heart of my work is a person-centred, partnership approach. I don’t believe people need to be told what to do — most of us already know, at some level, what supports our health. What we often need is the right support, space and guidance to turn that knowledge into action. Sometimes that means creating structure, carving out time, building confidence or simply giving ourselves permission to put our own wellbeing higher on the list.
My own experiences with perimenopause, chronic pain and returning to study mid-life have given me a deep empathy for the realities of change. I bring that same compassion, curiosity and integrity to my coaching, mentoring and teaching — supporting people to find their own way forward, rather than prescribing a perfect one.
