No Pain No Gain myths

“Welcome to Coastal Health and Wellbeing.

When we work with ourselves holistically with self-compassion, we can slowly build positive habits such as good nutrition, regular strength, mobility and neurological training, alongside small daily habits which creates the space to effectively listen to our bodies needs and our innate wisdom. These changes can shift through stuck emotions and traumas which create chronic tension and pain in our bodies.

“I believe Integrated Bowen, specific hands on treatments, breathwork and healing are powerful and profound therapies which can assist not only physical rehabilitation but also energetic and emotional recovery when complemented with lifestyle changes, strength, mobility and neurological programmes between sessions.

For 12 years I have trained in sports therapy and rehabilitation, bodywork and clinical therapies. I have been known for clinical, sports, soft tissue and remedial work to support acute injuries and pain. Whilst I am very grateful for the strong foundation of learning and experience my training has given me, I have been attempting to move away from deep work for over four years, by going to university and upskilling into other areas to bring together the full holistic package of health and wellbeing.

I put huge pressure on myself to apply treatments I do not resonate with, knowing less is more and beneficial, but feeling like I have to work so hard to fix people and try to do too many things and mastering non of them. I have also struggled to progress in the things I feel promote self management and independence. I am aiming to concentrate on Bowen, Complementary, Remedial, Soft tissue and lifestyle Coaching, which includes Pilates Reformer and Exercise Prescription Coaching, Nutrition, and Lifestyle Medicine.

“I have sat in a strange place for many years, not being a physio or wanting to be, but consistently attracting acute injuries which has made me upskill and work hard to learn (which I am grateful for) but it has never been my passion or suited my way of viewing the body. I think in terms of body systems, I am suited to Complementary, Bowen, Remedial, lifestyle medicine, TCM and kinesiology and I am excited to spend much more time in this space, with chronic inflammatory health conditions and chronic injuries, pain and restrictions.

My passion is working with people who have chronic health issues, general aches, pains, restrictions and chronic pain which can benefit from integrated touch therapies, nutritional support, lifestyle medicine, exercise and mental/ emotional support.

I rarely have deep tissue treatments personally and haven’t for years, I opt for Bowen, biodynamic cranial sacral and integrated energy healing, which are all minimal touch energetic or nervous system therapies which work to solve body pain and work through emotional stressors. Any acute injuries I have had, I have gone to Lisa Pleasance - Physio -she does short treatments getting straight to the issues and never painful.  I highly recommend her.

We don’t need force to make changes

When we apply force, the body tenses and locks down, this causes tissue damage and nervous system conflict. When people say “I can go harder, if I like” or “I just want a good pummelling” I have a duty to give the client what they are paying for and I’m a people people pleaser, but its not what I resonate with or feel is best for individuals.

Research shows that individuals often get pain relief and changes from just unloading their worries, relaxing and the gentle Bowen I do at the start of each session (which has already made big changes before the deeper work starts), but I understand that people like deeper work and there is still a huge belief that if it doesn’t hurt it isn’t working.  However a confident, slow pressure is optimal for great results.

Your innate intelligence

You don’t need hard and fast massage, or to be overworked in the painful area!! you need specific protocols, frequent sessions, and a strategy to make changes, committing to homecare between sessions.

Health and wellbeing coaching

We are expanding

We will be expanding the gym over the next 12 months to enable group sessions. I have been trying to find ways to reach more people and make reformer more affordable and accessible. I have space dilemmas as a barrier to facilitate groups, but we are aiming to expand or take on premises to enable group classes soon. I will be adding more reformers over the next 6 months. Bringing my unique style of reformer small group classes for whole body strength, mobility, stability and neuro work to reduce chronic pain, compensation patterns and build strong bodies, empower health and wellbeing independence and to share my absolute joy of movement.

Enjoying our bodies is one of the most empowering, joyful experiences we can have on earth and the biggest gift. Strength, energy and stamina enables us to engage in the equally most important experience of life…… enjoying relationships with our families, friends, kids, grandkids and friends. health is wealth and is the most significant factor for quality of life.
